Graduate Student Application Requirements
All students applying to the M.S., M.E. or Ph.D. graduate program must complete
a Graduate School Admissions
Application and submit a written Statement of Intent. The Statement of Intent
must clearly indicate the applicant’s program area of interest (Environmental, Geotechnical,
Structures, Transportation or Water Resources) and summarize the motivation for
the applicant to pursue graduate studies. Generally the statement should be 1 to
2 pages in length.
The general Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for all students entering
the M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs. For students entering the M.E. degree program,
the GRE is waived for students having a GPA>2.8 and a B.S. degree in civil or environmental
engineering from an ABET accredited school. The GRE is required for all other M.E.
applicants.
Scores from the TOEFL exam are required from international students whose native
language is not English.
Each applicant should submit at least two letters of recommendation.
Graduate Student Application Deadlines
The CEE Department generally follows the application deadlines posted at The Graduate
School website: http://gradschool.sc.edu/importantdates.asp:
- Spring semester: November 15
- May session: April 1
- First summer session: May 1
- Second summer session: June 1
- Fall Session: July 1
International applicants should have the application submitted and all supporting
documents finalized 2-3 months prior to The Graduate School published deadlines
to allow for the VISA process.
Assistantships and fellowships are offered on a rolling basis depending on the availability
of funds. Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible for full consideration.
